KIPLING'S CONNECT TO PENCH NATIONAL PARK - CENTRAL INDIA

Rudyard Kipling, an India born British author, introduced Mowgli-the "man-cub" to the world. Born human but brought up as a wolf, Mowgli gave the world a new vision of man and nature in harmony.

Inspired by Jataka Tales of India, Kipling is one of those few writers who has set India as the base for most of his famous books like Rikki-Tikki Tavi (1894), Kim (1901), The Man who would Be King (1888) or not to miss The Jungle Book (1895).
Of all his books, The Jungle Book holds popularity as an eternal classic for all age groups not just as an interesting novel of man and wild but also igniting a spark of curiosity on the creation of Mowgli and the inspiration that might have instigated Kipling to create this man-cub as the hero of this novel. It is often believed that The Jungle Book had been set in the forests of Central India where resemblances to Baloo, Sher Khan, Bagheera, Kaa, etc, were very evident. Not just that but a few miles away in the villages of Seoni, a similar jungle boy had been captured by a British Officer which, as assumed could be the source of the creation of Mowgli. It is true that Kipling never visited the forests of Central India but it cannot be denied that such a jungle boy did exist in reality.
